What an awesome Spring Fling we had this past Sunday! Forty-four new campers came to New York Sports Clubs in Livingston NJ for our annual New Camper Get-Together.

Many of our staff were on hand including Jenn, Rona, Chrissy, Ilene and Mady our new co-drama director. We also want to send a special thanks to Shelby Isaacs and Julie Keeselhaut, two of our amazing CIT’s who also came to help out for the day. While Adena led the campers in icebreakers and games, parents had a chance to ‘talk camp’ with Matt, Ilene and Noel in the next room. And of course what would a camp event be without ice cream, as everyone enjoyed cake and ice cream at the end of the day.

Just being there and seeing all of our camp friends and feeling the excitement of our new campers has us as psyched about camp as you! A huge appreciation to our new families for making the trip and being so warm and friendly and making the day such a success. Your kids were awesome and you are going to fit right in at A Nice People Place! Only 53 more days!!!

This past week Camp Wayne for Girls has been host to the Preston/Hancock Experience, a weeklong day camp for underprivileged kids from the surrounding Preston Park, PA and Hancock, NY areas.  The camp was started and is directed by Noel’s brother Michael and his wife Randy.  Many people may remember that Michael successfully owned and directed Camp Wayne for Boys from the 1970’s until the mid -90’s, along the way building Camp Wayne for Boys into one of the most successful summer camps in the country.

I finally saw the movie ‘Race to Nowhere’ last night, a movie I’ve been trying to see for some time. The film looks at the impact that our culture of success, achievement and grades has on our children.  I first became interested in this topic of over ‘home-worked’, over-scheduled, over stressed and sleep deprived kids about 10 years ago when many of the girls at camp would relate to me stories from their own school driven ‘winter’ lives.   As I watched the movie I couldn’t help Continue reading →

In just 41 days the buses will be rolling into 56 NPP for another amazing summer at Camp Wayne.  But on Sunday May 15 thirty-eight of our newest campers gathered at New York Sports club in Livingston, NJ for our annual Spring Fling for their first official Camp Wayne event!

Soon these girls will be standing on chairs and singing and joining in the all the awesome activities we’ve come to love at Wayne.  And on Sunday they had a chance to meet many of the staff (special shout out to Robbie Schapiro!) and fellow campers who they will be spending seven weeks with this summer.   After some brief introductions the campers headed to a separate room with Adena, Chrissy, Andi and Rona to do some icebreakers and crazy games while mom and dad had a relaxed Q&A session with Ilene, Matt and Noel.  As we said our good-by’s everyone was treated to some yummy cake and ice cream.

It was a great start to the summer and a great way to get all of us excited for June 25^th.  We want to welcome all of our new families to our Camp Wayne Family !  Thanks to all for making the trip out to Livingston and we can’t wait to see you at camp on Visiting Day!
